July 9, 2020，The inaugural academic salon titled "Basic Research and Clinical Applications of Pathology in the Multi-Omics Era", hosted by the Hangzhou Sino-German Virchow Joint Institute of Pathology, was successfully convened in the conference room on the 12th floor of the International Innovation and Entrepreneurship Park.

The salon commenced with a welcome speech by Zhang Cheng, East China Regional Head of the Virchow Laboratory Group, who extended a warm welcome to Academician Manfred Dietel and Mr. Markus Fehr in Germany, as well as online experts and colleagues from Shanghai and other regions. The event aimed to establish a high-level interactive platform fostering exchanges and collaboration between fundamental pathology research and clinical applications.

Dr. Lin Lin, Technical Director of the Molecular Diagnostics Department at Virchow Laboratory (Hangzhou), presented the laboratory’s development history, along with its ongoing projects and strengths in the field of molecular diagnostics.

Dr. Deng Hong, Associate Professor of the Department of Pathology and Pathophysiology at Zhejiang University School of Medicine, delivered a presentation titled "The Interaction Between Tumor and Stroma in Colorectal Cancer", introducing her team’s ongoing research directions and key findings.

Professor Hua Yuejin, a scientist at the Institute of Biophysics, Zhejiang University, delivered a presentation titled "Genome Stability in Tumorigenesis, Progression, and Drug Resistance". From a clinical application perspective, he explored the pathogenic mechanisms through extensive data analysis, using ovarian cancer drug resistance as a case study.

Finally, the keynote speech titled "Opportunities and Challenges of Liquid Biopsy" by Professor Zhang Jing, Director of the Department of Pathology at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University, elevated the salon to its climax. Prominent scholars in attendance, including Academician Dietel (participating remotely from Europe), engaged in thorough and in-depth discussions with Professor Zhang Jing on cutting-edge research topics within the field.
